Savonlinna is located 280 Km away from Helsinki and 230 Km away from St Petersburg. The main attraction of Savonlinna, the oldest town in Eastern Finland, is the Olavinlinna Castle, one of the biggest medieval fortresses in Europe. Since 1912 the castle hosts famous Savonlinna Opera Festival that takes place annually in July-August. The festival program will be available at http://www.oopperajuhlat.fi/en by October 2017. Please note that tickets should be reserved well in advance.

You can visit St. Petersburg by Allegro high-speed train (see St.Petersburg by train), taxi or express bus providing you have Russian visa.
