Holiday Club Saimaa offers all the comforts for a scientific meeting combined with an opportunity to enjoying the wonderfuland unique landscape of South Karelia, the most beautiful parts of the Finland lake district. The Workshop venue is situated on the shores of Saimaa, the largest lake in Finland. Its broad waters and numerous islands provide visitors with magnificent scenery.
Holiday Club Saimaa is easily accessible via Highway 6 through Vesivalo interchange (junction 62). It is located between Lappeenranta (35 km) and Imatra (7 km). Vainikkala Station (trains from Russia) is 60 kilometres away. For timetables, see www.vr.fi.

Your trip to NP2016 will probably include Helsinki. Being the capital of Finland, Helsinki has numerous tourist attractions (see http://www.helsinki.fi), therefore being well worth a short stay either before or after the conference. The city of Savonlinna is located 130 km away from the NPO2016 venue and is reachable by bus or train. The main attraction of Savonlinna, a town surrounded by Saimaa lake, is the Olavinlinna Castle, one of the biggest medieval fortresses in Europe. In 2016, a famous Savonlinna Opera Festival that takes place in the castle will last until August 6. The festival program can be found at http://www.oopperajuhlat.fi/en/Season-and-Tickets/Season-2016. It is worth noting that tickets should be reserved well in advance.
You may consider also combining NPO2016 with visiting St.Petersburg, which is 230 km away. You can visit St. Petersburg by Allegro high-speed train (see St.Petersburg by train) or express bus providing you have Russian visa.
